guess who's back, back again...

i've been out of commission for over a year... and in that time, too much good music has happened.... and perhaps i'll be able to regularly share some of that music on here. i wanted to start with a new imogen heap song... there are too many good ones to really pick just one, but i'm just going to post the one that's been stuck in my head the last two days...

over two months ago i received an email from one of my closest college buddies, telling me to watch this song on youtube because it was mixed company material. now, that song is being played every 15 mins on every radio station in the nation, even though katy perry didn't have a great performance during her national broadcast television premiere on 'so you think you can dance'. i quickly chose the song as my ringtone a couple hours after i got the iphone 3g, but am tired of it by now. i guess i missed my chance to share that song. but, lucky for you, i'm back with a mixed company cover of a pink song. enjoy.

lots of feedback on the previous song, the cover of 'baby got back', so i decided to share another song i happen to have a cover of. this cover is by travis morrison, formerly of the dismemberment plan, and is of a pretty famous ludacris song. speaking of ludacris, if you are one of the few yet to see 'hustle & flow', see it very soon. it is a great movie.

yesterday i said goodbye to someone i know who will be leaving for the olympics shortly. yes, the song came before the idea in this post, but today's song is basically made as an inspirational song for olympic/world athletes. the real reason for posting this song though is the lack of knowledge about the neptunes, and beyond them, n.e.r.d..

pharrell williams and chad hugo make up the neptunes, and they are responsible for many great tracks, including busta rhymes' 'pass the courvoisier pt. 2', britney spears' 'i'm a slave 4 u', nelly’s 'hot in herre', snoop dogg's 'drop it like it's hot', kelis' 'milkshake', many justin timberlake songs, and recently, ludacris's 'money maker' and many songs from the newest albums from madonna and ashlee simpson.

n.e.r.d. is pharrell, chad, and another vocalist, shae haley, and they have put out some really good songs including 'lapdance'. this song is from their 'the neptunes present... clones' album they put out a few years ago with many top artists on it, such as nas, jadakiss, clipse, nelly, ludacris, and busta rhymes.

today is a big day for many reasons, especially because it's someone special's birthday. in her honor i did a little nelly furtado searching today, and came upon perhaps my greatest gold mine ever. i share with you all today a large selection of nelly furtado rarities... there are a couple that were released as bonus tracks on her first album, some by her in her original trip-hop duo, nelstar*, as well as the first track she was ever featured on (and more). some are links to other pages because i couldn't get the song, but enjoy them all!

sometimes you just need to listen to some great music, and one artist that fits that criteria is jose gonzalez. i'm sure many of you already know of him, and may have this song, but he's still great. saw him at a small show in ebf at stanford about a year and a half ago, and it was one of the best shows i've been to in my life.

i was curious about an artist i was thinking about posting, brie larson, so i googled her to find out who this person was and why i had her song on my itunes. turns out she's from sacramento, like me (sorta). i then started pondering other artists who have come from my background, which led to today's post (and future posts).

today's post is a collection of songs from most of the stanford a cappella groups, since i was in one of those not too long ago. hope you enjoy.

the first a cappella song i was asked to sing, since it was the callback song when i auditioned freshman year.

one of the best soloists i've ever had the pleasure of singing with, and one of the best i've heard in general.

ep is an excellent group, and with the r&b, soul, and hip hop genres they pretty much get to sing some great stuff.

stanford mendicants - wake me up before you go-go
thought about including a song from the audition cd, but instead decided to share one of the mendicants great versions of a classic song.

if you've seen eurotrip, you're familiar with this song. knowing the lead singer in the video, it seems like the perfect song for her.

i just watched this new version of the song, and fleet street actually updated it to include soulja boy. nice.

my brightest diamond happens to be a great artist i discovered with my girlfriend at a sufjan stevens show a while back... shara worden is the lead singer for my brightest diamond, but also has been part of sufjan's backup band, so she's great on two musical fronts. anyway, my girlfriend really turned me onto my brightest diamond, and so i owe this song posting to her.

here is someone i personally know from being a dormmate and hearing a song by him and another great musician at a dorm talent show about how it's all better with our clothes off. i saw him last night at a friend's board game party, played some apples to apples with him, only to find out when i got home that he had a new video that was making its way up digg.com... i highly encourage heading over to his myspace, or at least checking out the fantastic video that accompanies this song, especially since this is a low quality version.

kids strung out on homemade speed

had to drop two tracks today, since i feel confident in the new site and since i've got to catch up with the multi-concert weekend i had a few days ago. friday, i saw dcfc at the greek theatre. thought it was ok up until they left before the encore... then they came out, played five songs and completely won me over. that said, here is an acoustic version of one of their songs. not my favorite song, but a pretty good one.
